For this challenge Rachel teamed up with parathelete Ebony Court (who attended the Yeovil Opp Group), who helped Rachel get to grips with her racing wheelchair then joined Rachel on her challenge at the Sherborne Summer Festival.

Also taking up the challenge at the festival was Rachel's sons George (18) and William (15) who ran a marathon, starting and finishing at the Sherborne festival.

In the long term the HNT wheelchair is to be donated to a disabled sports person.

Rachel's Epic Challenge 2018 June 16th

Some of the children who attend the Opportunity Groups that Rachel raises funds for have PHYSICAL DISABILITIES in addition to their Special Educational Needs. This makes life even harder for them as they have to face their own physical challenges on a daily basis.

Rachel has seen how difficult life can be for a child with SEN due to her experience as a mother with an SEN daughter. However, until now she has had no concept of how hard life can be for children with additional physical disabilities. So, this year's "Epic Challenge" was one with a difference...a marathon in a racing wheelchair.

As an athlete, used to using powerful leg muscles, Rachel needed to gain immense core, upper body strength and endurance. Her training, under the guidance of SpFit Sherborne was gruelling, sometimes exhausting both physically and mentally, but this was ONLY until June 16th when the challenge took place; unlike children who have physical disabilities as they MAY have to endure these physical and mental challenges on a long term basis.

This challenge was definitely Rachel's toughest to date...Venue: the Sherborne Summer Festival.
